Cosmo Science Forum

The COSMO is a meeting-place for society and research. Both society and research are more than ever dependent on each other: Science helps to understand the world based on facts and without prejudice. It answers questions and provides insights that can contribute to social progress, innovations, and better living conditions for all. But what is science without people who understand and trust it? How can research provide answers to society if it does not know its questions?

The Science Forum provides a space that promotes exchange between science and society. Here, various fields of science and current research can be experienced live and hands-on and be critically discussed in different event formats.

The COSMO can be visited from Tuesday through Thursday from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Admission is free of charge.

The space is operated jointly by the Barkhausen Institut and the Department of Speculative Transformation at TU Dresden in cooperation with partners from the Dresden Science Alliance DRESDEN-concept, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Central Library.

New Exhibition "Dr. Future Medical Technology from Dresden Science"
From 1 October 2024 to 28 February 2025
Opening hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 1 pm to 6 pm
(Exhibition in German and English)
On 7 November 2024, the exhibition will be open until 7:30 pm on the occasion of Gastrointestinal Day.

In the "Dr. Future" exhibition, scientists from Dresden's research institutions present their current projects. Interactive exhibits provide insights into current developments in medical technology: Will artificial intelligence make its own diagnosis in the future? Can implants be made from textiles? How are new medical tests developed?

Researchers from the fields of engineering and medicine are constantly developing medical technology. Together, they are working to maintain and improve people's quality of life and save lives. Medical technology inventions open up new treatment options in everyday life, at the doctor’s, and in hospital. For example, intelligent clothing can support muscle movements. Improved image quality in ultrasound examinations facilitates medical findings and cancers are detected more effectively through the use of artificial intelligence. Discover in the exhibition what contribution Dresden science is making to the development of innovative and highly specialized medical devices.

The exhibition is aimed at science enthusiasts aged 12 and over and is free of charge.

Guides tours
Free guided tours for groups of up to 25 people, also outside opening hours, can be requested at info@cosmo-wissenschaftsforum.de.

Science cache "circulation" in the exhibition
A science cache awaits visitors in the exhibition space: the game leads through several stations that offer insights into various aspects of medical technology. At each station there is a puzzle that must be solved to progress. This is a fun and varied way for children and adults to learn more about medical technology.

  • Duration: max. 45 minutes.
  • Individuals: Participation possible during opening hours without pre-registration.

On request, the offer can be combined with an interactive guided tour. Duration of science cache and interactive tour: 90 minutes.
